Overview

An individual or a business entity needs a 10 digit unique code to import or export products or services. This code is known as Import Export Code or IEC and the code is issued by DGFT, Ministry of Commerce and Industries by Govt. of India. An Importer -Exporter Code (IEC) is a unique number which is mandatory for exporting outside India or importing in India. Unless specifically exempted no person will be able to export or import without obtaining an IEC. However, for exports of services, IEC is not mandatory except when the service provider is taking benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy. After introduction of GST, IEC being issued is the same as the PAN of the firm but the IEC will still be separately issued by DGFT based on an application. The type of the person obtaining an IEC may be any of the following – Sole Proprietorship, Partnership Firm, LLP, Private/Public Limited Company, Trust, HUF and Society.

At ZAPTAX, we offer you a seamless experience for your IEC Registration so that you focus on setting up your business. We will follow-up till you have your IEC.

BENEFITS

IEC code is the basic requirement for the import into and export out of India for the goods and notified services which enables the businesses to access the international business market. It increases the reach of the business and opens a wider territory for growth and expansion.

IEC code has great benefits for importers as well as exporters. The registered business entities would be able to avail benefits in form of subsidies or other benefits announced either by the Export Promotion Council, CBIC, other statutory or non-statutory authorities and bodies.

IEC is a PAN based registration and unlike other registrations, does not have any specific compliance requirements or periodic filings like quarterly or monthly returns. However, annual updations in details filed in IEC application needs to be done before 30th June every year.
